   basically, the differences are visual upgrades, as well as some modifications to create better performance. also, the prices for these models are much higher than the other 911 models. you can say, its the M series for porsche… or the AMG lineup. their sportier. currently there are 3 gt models

   2: GT3 RS - 415hp. top speed 193mph. 0-60hp in 4.0 sec. starts @ $124,900

   The “GT” cars with Porsche are generally cars that sit along the top of their line, and in most cases are the cars which are used to homologate their race cars (GT Class race cars are allowed certain modifications over a base road car, which must be produced to a certain quanity).

   The current models offered are the GT3 and the GT2. Compared to the regular 911, these cars are quite different, both in terms of their engines, suspension, brakes, and bodywork. Additionally, there is the GT3RS which has a number of further upgrades over the standard GT3, and some geometry differences in the suspension as well. The key difference between the GT3 and GT3 is that the GT3 is normally aspirated while the GT2 is turbocharged. The engine blocks in these cars are the same as the 911 Turbo (which is derived from the older GT1, and different from the blocks used in the rest of the current lineup).

   The current GT3 is used as the basis for the GT3 Cup car, while the GT3RS is the basis for the GT3RSR. The GT2 is not currently used as the basis for any racing car.

   Porsche previously produced the Carrera GT, which was it’s top of the line car for the few years it was produced. There have also been earlier version of the GT2 and GT3 (GT2 dates back to the mid 1990s with the 993 version of the Carrera, while the first GT3 appeared late in the 90s with the 996 version). There is also a GT1, which was produced mainly as a race-car in the mid-90s (won class and overall at Le Mans in 1994) as well as a few street versions.

   The naming dates back to the GT1 era, when the GT1 was a car that fit into the GT1 class, the GT2 fit into the GT2 Class, and when the GT3 was introduced, it fit competitively into the GT3 class. None of these classes currently exist, though the names remain (The GT3RSR competes in the GT2 class, and if there was a competition version of the GT2, it would fit into the current GT1 class, though it would need a lot of development to be competitive here).
