Can anyone help me with updating a chipped PSP please?

I was given a chipped PSP from a friend last week, the model is a PSP-1006 and the current custom firmware is 5.00 M33-6. The unit operates fine although I cannot seem to play any games!!

I bought some new/used legit games for it and when attempting to load the UMD it says that the PSP needs to update to version 6.00 in order to play them. I cannot update the system as it just comes up with an error message. I had figured that’s because its cfw instead of official Sony firmware…

I have tried to gain advice from google but it all seems a bit confusing and technical to me, I don’t have a Pandora battery or magic memory stick, and I don’t really want to be splashing out for them at the minute. All I have is the USB cable, charger and a 2gb memory stick.

I am a total dummy when it comes to mod chipping, so can anyone out there possibly point me in the right direction?? Any advice would be much appreciated, the most simplest way the better. Also if you could give me some step-by-step instructions or tutorial even better ;-)

Oh yer, just one more thing I have also read up that there is a way of switching from custom to Sony’s official firmware. This is also an option I would consider as I’m not too bothered about it being chipped, I just want to play my fecking games !!!

Thanks a bunch in advance…..
