Can I safely transfer photos/documents from a virus infected laptop to new one (with Norton installed) safely?

The old laptop has been deep scanned and cleared by ‘exterminate-it’.Since using ‘Exterminate it’ the old laptop won’t open ‘internet explorer’ but opens ‘My Pictures’
I’ll be using a memory stick to transfer the photos
