How can I make a simple magnetic generator?

How can I make a simple magnetic generator?

Would using neodymium magnets make it better? I was thinking of getting a little DC motor and gluing a cd to it, glue little neodymium discs to it in a way that I could put other magnets next to it to interact with the magnetic fields to make the cd spin the dc motor? What do you think? Is there a better way?
