How to convert galvanometer into ammeter??Please help!?

There they connect in parallel a small resistance ’shunt’ so as to protect the sensitive galvanometer, right?
But isn’t that like cheating? Cuz now there is lesser current than original flowing through the galvanometer and this will show lesser deflection. So the measurement of current would lesser than the original one. So it isn’t really an ammeter
