I dropped my external hard drive?

So, I’m an idiot and I dropped my almost full 1TB external hard drive. It wasn’t running when I dropped it, and I plugged it in and checked to see if it was okay. There was no noises and the blue light came on like it normally does, but the other light, the red light, didn’t come on. When I plugged it into my computer, my computer failed to recognize the external hard drive. It fell about two feet and hit the carpet relatively hard.

My question is, is there any way I can save it? I have a lot of important documents on it and I don’t really have a ton of money, so if there is a relatively inexpensive way to recover my data, I would be grateful if you could let me know what I can do.
