My laser pen doesent work when it is cold?

Hello,

I have a green laser pen, which runs on energizer AAA batteries. When the laser is in an environment where it is quite warm, eg indoors, or if it is in my pocket, it works fine. However, say if I bring it from the warm area outside into the cold, it works for about 2 minuets then just goes dim and then does not shine at all, until I warm it up again. Can anyone help me figure this out? Thanks!
