What happened to mainstream music?

Why does most of it lack depth, emotion and talent?

What happened to old school music like Whitney Houston, old school Mariah Carey, The Beatles, Brandy, Aaliyah, Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Iron Maiden, Tupac, etc? And these artists wouldn’t go around degrading woman so much.
*Note: I know some of these people are still releasing music, but it’s not considered “mainstream” by many.

Why did mainstream music begin to fail so suddenly?
Yes. Hannah Montana is so annoying. Brandy was so much better. She could sing, dance and act… very much unlike Miley Cyrus. Brandy/Aaliyah/Monica=original teen idols! Why can’t we have better teen idols nowadays? Christina Aguilera is the only teen idol I respect. She’s mature, diverse and very talented.
Yes, I know aguilera isn’t a teenager anymore but you sshould know what I meant lol
