Why can’t people just use regular text, e-mail, and phone calls any more?

Why can\’t people just use regular text, e-mail, and phone calls any more?

I got internet, phone at work, at home, on my phone. Every once a while I come across someone, friend, family member, who wants to talk to me, BUT wants me to download this and that application to use for our chats and emails and phone calls. I don’t need any more crap, I got a good deal on what I got, why can’t they just use what they subscribe to, why does it have to be some other stupid thing you need to waste time on downloading and using?
